June 13

We went to the A's game this evening.

It was Reverse Boycott night (which, for those not in the know, was to protest the team's proposed move to Las Vegas and to pressure the owner to sell) so it was loud and crowded (by recent Oakland-standards) and surprisingly well-organized.

Ordinarily those first two descriptors --loud and crowded-- are big-time turn-offs for me, but not tonight. Tonight they were reminders of sweet times gone by; back 20-plus years ago when Adam and I went to A's games on a regular basis. Back when we cheered for the Big Three and booed Jason Giambi's return as a Yankee and experienced the 20-game win-streak first-hand. Tonight, some of that long-absent electric energy was back in Oakland, and it was sweet to be able to share it with our kids, even if it winds up being just this one time.

So for the experience and the memories it stirred up in my mind, I am grateful.
